Take 5: Come To Me–An Ongoing Invitation

Jesus’ offer of rest isn’t just for our bodies and burden-laden lives, but for our souls. Our hearts. Our minds. It’s a total package.

First, He invites us to come (back) to Him in faith and humility. To accept His gift of salvation or to recommit to the covenant we made with His when we first accepted His gift and vowed to follow Him all the days of our lives. This is the most precious gift He could give us.

Once we’ve put our faith in Jesus, His invitation to come to Him is on-going because He also provides all we need to follow Him including:

Scripture

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. (2 Timothy 3:16)

The Holy Spirit to teaches us and help us remember and apply what we learned from studying His Word

But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. (John 14:26)

Adoption into God’s family

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12)

Spiritual wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to life a fruit-filled life

We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. (Colossians 1:9b-10)

Purpose and promise of His presence

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,b baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-10)

Peace of heart and mind. A promise to come back for us.

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. Remember what I told you: I am going away, but I will come back to you again. If you really loved me, you would be happy that I am going to the Father, who is greater than I am. have told you these things before they happen so that when they do happen, you will believe. (John 14:27-29)

Blessings, xoxo
